The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe Wedding / Chelsea & Carter
An Outdoor San Diego Wedding
Looking back on Chelsea and Carter’s nuptials, the one word that I keep thinking is, “devotion.” Chelsea and Carter are sweet, gorgeous, and absolutely devoted to each other. They were married at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, in front of their friends and family, but some of the most special moments of the day were more private ones.
Chelsea and Carter wanted to wait to see each other until they walked down the aisle, but also knew that seeing each other would be a grounding, calming moment. Rather than do a traditional “first look,” they opted to have a private prayer session, which was a first for us to photograph. Linking hands around a closed door, Chelsea and Carter weren’t able to see each other, but they could squeeze hands and share their wishes not only for a beautiful day but for a beautiful life together. As Ian and I took pictures, we could tell the instant effect that the simple touch had on them – Carter and Chelsea just bloomed. Their faces were so radiant and full of love, and it was an honor to witness.
Later they shared their vows in front of everyone, but also chose to have an act of service. Stepping a little aside, they washed each other’s feet with water. It was a tender, quiet moment, and though it was part of the larger ceremony, it was also incredibly intimate. After making each other (and me) cry, the couple continued to share the love during their reception.
Held onsite, the party was a ton of fun, and we also got to step away with the bridal party and take some group shots. During our photo session, a whole fleet of hot air balloons trailed across the sky in a burst of festivity. To cap off the evening, Chelsea and Carter had an exit lit by sparklers and cheers.
Thanks for having us at your wedding Chelsea and Carter. It was an honor and a joy! xo Tanya
