Charlotte and Paul brought me down from Seattle for their really fantastic Los Angeles River Center and Gardens Wedding in downtown LA. They’re both incredibly intelligent people and through all their never-ending academics it took them literally two years to plan their wedding from when I first talked to them. They also had to schedule everything from far away in Boston, so pulling it all together from such a long distance wasn’t easy. In talking to Charlotte, they knew they wanted an LA Mountains wedding venue, and the River Center fit the bill quite nicely.
When it comes to Los Angeles wedding venues, my favorite are always nice large open air spots, and that’s what the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Group [and LA Mountain Weddings] is all about! They run really fantastic venues all with the goal of getting people outside and enjoying greenery. I’ve shot at their Upper Las Virgenes wedding venue before, but this was my first time at their flagship Los Angeles River Center Wedding site and I was very impressed.

How cool is it to be able to walk through these massive gates into a lush garden setting- right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
Charlotte and Paul had to make a decision on which upbringing to celebrate in their wedding; Paul was brought up Quaker, and Charlotte’s family is Indian. They decided to do both! Look at her gorgeous Mehndi against her white Sari, absolutely gorgeous.
The couple chose to do a first look, and as always it didn’t disappoint. Such a beautiful moment for the two of them and I felt so lucky to be able to capture it for them.
Part of a Quaker ceremony is quiet reflection, and if anyone in the crowd wants to stand up and say a few words they can. It was really fantastic and great stories about Charlotte and Paul were told.
Half-way through the ceremony, we switched over to the Indian side and observed some of the traditional customs.
I was quite surprised how many options the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens Wedding Venue had for portraits. Really fantastic metal backdrops, not to mention gorgeous benches, and of course lush garden settings.
Music is very important to them, so people were encouraged to get up and play a little piano and do some singing. Dad had clearly been ready to sing this number for awhile!
The night concluded with Charlotte and Paul doing a duet on Piano and Violin. A beautiful ending to a fantastic day.
Thank you for having me be a part of your incredible ceremony Charlotte and Paul! -Ian
