As photographers, Ian and I love it when couples take traditional wedding details, turn them on their heads, and make them their own. That’s just what Timo and Rachel did for their Inn of the Seventh Ray wedding, and it was so much fun to photograph.
In a twist on tradition, Rachel and Timo actually got dressed up in their wedding gear a few weeks before the wedding so they would have time for a nice, extended portrait session for their Inn of the Seventh Ray Wedding. We got to use the great field at sunset up the hill from the restaurant with gorgeous light coming through the trees.
With their outfits already revealed, come wedding day they opted to get ready together. The couple started off at the Hotel Wilshire, a gorgeous modern building filled with photo-friendly decor. We love when our clients choose pretty hotels to get ready, it makes the photos shine that much more!
After they got ready, Rachel and Timo headed over to Inn of the Seventh Ray, a lovely restaurant that hosts weddings on their outdoor patio in Topanga Canyon. As it gets darker the Inn transforms into a secluded destination complete with twinkling stars above and a brook that runs alongside the patio.
The ceremony was filled with personal touches, from a speech about stars (one of the wedding themes, which was also reflected on the necklace decorating Rachel’s bouquet), to Rachel and Timo planting a tree to symbolize their life together. They even had a butterfly release after their first kiss!
In addition to the ceremony, the reception decor was stunning – the floral arrangement were earthy and lush, filled with ferns, moss, and vibrant purple flowers. There was even a hummingbird nest on display. Every centerpiece was a bit different and I couldn’t stop looking at them. The night finished off with dinner al fresco, under glass chandeliers and twinkle lights. Simply Natural Events did a great job coordinating the event and it was a truly memorable wedding.
