Scotland in Winter – Castle Dunnottar
Castle Dunnottar was a little bit out of the way on our Scotland roadtrip, but we felt it was going to be worth it based on some photos I’ve seen. I mean where else are you going to see this already epic looking castle perched on a sea stack out over the ocean. It was pretty amazing, and seeing it in person put it in perspective of how cold it is living on the ocean without any heating. Brr….
We kind of lucked out though as we had a bit of every season while we were there. We arrived an hour or two before sunset, so first we got that nice warm glow and then a half hour later a crazy out of nowhere snow storm came through. That was a little jarring as we were the only ones there [maybe we didn’t get the memo?] and had to hole up in one of the open roof castle rooms. It was exceptionally cold but we couldn’t go out for a little bit. It appeared the pigeons had the same idea as us and weren’t too happy we were there! After that it cleared out and was turned into dusk.
The next morning we woke up to an even crazier snow storm coming through and it had left a good amount of snow all over everything. How else can you make an already gorgeous setting more beautiful? On the drive out we saw a car flipped on its roof, that wasn’t pretty.
