Lake Pukaki and Lake Tekapo, New Zealand
Yet another stop on our never ending trip to Mount Cook [which was apparently in the most inaccessible place from where we were leaving]. At this point we were probably about 10 hours into the drive so we were pretty wiped out already. It was a very nice surprise and it woke Tanya up from her deep car sleep. Thankfully we hit these little gems when there was some crazy weather coming through and you can really see how vivid the water color is. With Lake Pukaki [the foggy ones on the top] it was obvious that the color of the water wasn't being influenced by the sky- which makes it all the more unreal. Tanya and I had a nice little moment in the rain just watching the waves as we got soaked and seeing our mountain final stop deep into those storm clouds. Figures.

the colour is caused by the 'rock flour' particles [from the glaciers] suspended in the water.
