Los Angeles Headshots: Josh Decker, Actor

Photos Taken with a Canon 5D Mark II /  Canon 135mm f2

Something I do besides shooting weddings and landscapes is acting headshots. I have a separate site from Distinctphoto.com over at LA Headshots and it has my whole headshot portfolio, tips, and some guidelines, etc. Anyway, Josh Decker needed to fix up his old headshots so he hired me recently for a shoot around Venice, CA. I think they came out great!

  • Mah - Excellent Photography....everything just wow

  • Jenia - Great shots! May I ask you what aperture / shutter speed settings you used in these? You have the whole face sharp and well lit, yet the blurred background. I mostly do street photography as well as shoot 2d artwork. Occasionally I do headshots for my friends and still struggle with correct settings! Usually my depth of field is either so shallow, that one eye will be in focus and the other one softish, or face in focus - background too sharp.

    Thanks!

  • ian - Hi Jenia,

Try not to go all the way to F/1.8 as your focus will be too shallow as you've found. Anywhere f/2-3.2 is a safe bet for a stationery subject. Have fun with your 50mm, stick with primes- they're great. :)
